CFB 2025: SHSU Bearkats vs. UT Longhorns Game in 95°F+ Heat

Transitioning from FCS to FBS, Conference USA, Sam Houston Bearkats' third season (0-3) is looking to reset to its 2024 performance, 10 wins and New Orleans Bowl victory. With a game before SEC, Longhorns fans are impatient with the first-round pick and sophomore Arch Manning’s development as a starter QB and Heisman trophy candidate.

What fans may have overlooked is how scheduling may affect performance. For the 2024 season, the Longhorns moved from the Big 12 to the SEC, moving kickoff times for 4 games in the hottest months before 6pm. During the summer, Longhorns strength and conditioning coach Becton put players through Austin, TX, 100°F heat training to build mental and physical toughness. Saturday’s 89°F at kickoff, DKR’s 100,000 fans (100 watts/spectator), low airflow between rows, radiant heat from bright lights and plastic seats add 5°F, with 65% RH, or 105°F heat index. Field turf can be 40°F degrees hotter than grass, and in all-day direct sunlight, temperatures could reach 140°F. Want to avoid long lineups, stay cool, and not miss the game?
