In the (2-0) season, Houston outscored their opponents 62-9, ranking 4th in NCAA scoring defense while limiting teams on average to 78 passing yards, 3rd in the nation. The synthetic field turf at TDECU Stadium builds up heat faster than grass, and daytime highs of 93°F would result in field temperatures of 120-180°F at game time. Although temperatures will fall to 90°F as the sun sets, the heat index at kickoff will still be 92°F (33°C). On site are 17 EMTs and 6 free monster refill stations, but water lineups will be frequent and take forever. The battle may just not be about “Thriving on the Field” for players, so much as “Surviving the Heat” for the 40,000 fans with something more than just “Texas Grit”.
